Sean Kingston Shoots Video For 'Back 2 Life' Single With T.I.
Pop Crush - almost 6 years
Instagram It looks like Sean Kingston is ready to get back to music and he’s enlisted the King of the South to help him with his comeback. The ‘Beautiful Girls’ crooner has teamed up with T.I. for his title track ‘Back 2 Life.’ According to Rap-Up, the pair recently shot a video together in Los Angeles. Director Benny Boom is helming the clip, which also features a guest appearance from comedian Mike Epps. Kingston posted a few pictures from the set on his Twitter account and also gave a shout out to Tip. Looking at the photos, we can see that Kingston has slimmed down a bit from his old husky frame. It’s obvious the singer is watching what he eats and is exercising daily. It’s been a long journey for Kingston. After surviving his jet ski accident and open-heart surgery last year, the 22-year-old crooner has a new lease on life — which explains why he’s calling his new album ‘Back 2 Life.’ “I’m going back in with my producer J.R. [Rotem], who did really big records for m...

How Nicki Minaj Has Become The Coolest, Unlikeliest Pop Superstar In The Game
MTV News - almost 6 years
Hey Barbz! I'm Sam Lansky, and this is my column, "Pop Think," devoted to exploring the best and brightest facets of the pop music universe. And at the moment, few stars are shining quite so bright as the Harajuku Barbie herself, Nicki Minaj. She's the current queen of not just hip-hop but pop, too. Nicki Minaj has eked out a spot at the top of the musical A-list for infusing her hip-hop swagger with a strong pop sensibility, which has led to the release of her latest album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, an unrelenting hour-plus of wild, wacky, everything-but-the-kitchen-sink über-pop, loaded with scabrous rhymes, head-spinningly infectious melodies, and some surprisingly solid (if highly Auto-Tuned) vocals. Some critics have complained that Nicki is betraying her hip-hop roots, but to me, this new album feels like the natural evolution of the kookiest, most innovative chick currently making music. We couldn't stop it if we wanted to: Nicki Minaj is a pop superstar now, and at the ...

Nicki Minaj: I’m surprised that kids like my music
The Palm Beach Post - almost 6 years
Nicki Minaj loves the kids, but she’s not ready to completely clean up her image for her young fans. “I’ve always been kind of racy,” Minaj says, laughing. “Don’t expect that to change, but I love children and I respect children so much. …I’m big on them remaining, you know, kids. I don’t want them to go around cursing and acting crazy.” Many kids — and others — are going out to buy Minaj’s sophomore album, “Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded,” which sold 253,000 units in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan, giving Minaj her second No. 1 album. In just three years, the rapper has transformed her image by singing on her songs, and toning down her oversexed appearance. Her fan base now includes young girls, which she says surprised her. “I didn’t expect the kids to gravitate to me like that,” the 29-year-old said in an interview last week before performing in New York’s Times Square at a Nokia event. “I’m finding my own niche with them.” One of the reasons children have ...

Nicki Minaj Looking For Ultimate Hip-Hop/Pop Crossover
MTV News - almost 6 years
'I think she's taken it to the next level,' says Sirius/XM's Reggie Hawkins. By Gil Kaufman
It's one of the trickiest moves in music and even if it's done right it only goes in one direction. With her just-released second album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, Nicki Minaj has served notice that she aims to be that rarest of MCs: one that can appeal to the pop crowd and hard-core hip-hop heads at the same time.

It's virtually impossible (so far) to start out pop and then work up enough cred to get over with rap fans. But like Missy Elliott, Nelly, Eminem and Diddy before her, Minaj is hoping that she can stay relevant to the heads who fell in love with her three years ago on a series of buzzy mixta...
