AN ALFRETON teenager stole alcohol from a shop because he wanted to carry on drinking with his pals, a court heard. Lee Brailsford stuffed bottles of cider inside his coat and walked out of One Stop Store in Nottingham Road, Alfreton, without paying for them. The February 5 theft was recorded on CCTV and he was arrested on March 12 and owned up to the offence, saying he was the worse for drink at the time. Brailsford (19) of Chesterfield Road, Alfreton, admitted theft. He had a previous conviction for shoplifting and he had been cautioned by police for offences of theft and damage. The bench gave him an £88 fine, with £85 costs, and ordered him to pay £21 compensation. “The theft wasn’t detected at the time. By way of explanation, but not excuse, he had been drinking that day and he had run out of money to buy more. “He wanted to carry on drinking with friends and he was stupid enough to go into the shop and steal alcohol,” said Julie Page, for Brailsford, unemployed.
