Redskins consider tagging Kirk Cousins to trade him
ABC News - 18 days
In what sets up as an offseason game of chicken that would markedly influence the quarterback market, the Washington Redskins will consider placing their franchise tag on quarterback Kirk Cousins so they can trade him and recoup some of the compensation they are sending to Kansas City for quarterback? Alex Smith, per league sources. Tagging Cousins would prevent him from becoming a true unrestricted free agent, able to sign where he wants once the new league year opens March 14, and could impact how other teams approach free agency and the draft. Without a franchise tag, Cousins would be considered the NFL's top available free agent, expected to draw interest from Arizona, Denver, the New York Jets and other quarterback-needy teams. But Washington might want a say in where Cousins winds up, which would enable the Redskins to try to extract compensation in the 2018 draft rather than having him walk away for nothing this year. However,...

Terrelle Pryor asks Cody Davis to avoid hits to knees
ABC News - 5 months
Washington Redskins wide receiver Terrelle Pryor posted a message on Twitter for Los Angeles Rams safety Cody Davis Tuesday night: Aim higher. Pryor clearly was bothered by a Davis hit during Sunday's 27-20 win over the Rams. With just less than seven minutes remaining in the game, Pryor cut left across the middle and caught a pass from quarterback Kirk Cousins. Davis raced up from the secondary and hit the 6-foot-4 Pryor around his right knee. Davis, a fifth-year veteran, has yet to reply. Pryor gained 9 yards on the play, which was nullified by a holding penalty. After the play, Pryor got up quickly but did slightly shake his knee. In two games, Pryor has caught eight passes for 97 yards and frequently runs routes across the middle. His concerns about hits around the knees -- and the long-term injury risks they pose -- is nothing new. ? In an Aug. 22 preseason game at Cleveland, New.....

Living In The Time Of Trump
Huffington Post - about 1 year
Around my house, I'm the source of near-constant mockery for my ability to be nostalgic for virtually anything that happened before right now. If the topic is even remotely related to "Encino in the 70's", apparently I not only have written eight articles about it, but I manage to even describe gas lines, smog alerts, Skylab and the Hillside Strangler in sepia-hued tones, like I'm a walking Ken Burns documentary in Puma sneakers. Okay, it's true that in the 80's I was obsessed with the 60's, so much that I planned some of my outfits by studying old Byrds album covers. And in the 80's, like '86, I was already throwing '80's Night" parties, heavy on Dexy's Midnight Runners and Toni Basil and Men Without Hats. As if these were songs from a bygone jukebox, not the radio three years earlier. So, it should come as little surprise that I've been feeling awfully nostalgic lately. Nostalgic for a time when America was a beacon for all nations, a symbol of tolerance, inclusion, decency ...

AFC stands firm to hold off NFC in low-scoring Pro Bowl
Yahoo News - about 1 year
(The Sports Xchange) - In the lowest-scoring Pro Bowl since 1998, the AFC made two first-half goal-line stands and then held off the NFC's final drive to secure a 20-13 win at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida on Sunday. The Baltimore Ravens' Justin Tucker converted on 38 and 31-yard attempts to give the AFC a 20-7 advantage with 14:12 left in the game, before Detroit's Matt Prater hit from 42 and 46 to draw the NFC within a touchdown at the 4:29 mark. The NFC got the ball back at its 31-yard line with 2:39 remaining and crossed midfield at the two-minute warning on a pass from the Washington Redskins' Kirk Cousins to the New York Giants' Odell Beckham, eventually reaching the AFC 19.

Giants spoil Redskins' playoff bid
Yahoo News - about 1 year
(The Sports Xchange) - The visiting New York Giants, who had already clinched their wild card playoff berth, played to win on Sunday and beat division rival Washington Redskins 19-10 to eliminate them from playoff contention. Trailing 13-10 late in the fourth quarter, Kirk Cousins was intercepted by Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie with less than 1:30 remaining and the Redskins moving close to field goal range if not a winning touchdown. A Redskins win would have virtually clinched them the last NFC wild card, with only a tie in the Sunday night game between the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers able to deny them a postseason berth.

Mort & Schefter's Week 13 notebook
ABC News - about 1 year
Topics this week include Kirk Cousins' upcoming contract negotiations, Anquan Boldin's impact in Detroit, the promise of Cody Kessler and more. Cousins has leverage in his corner Over the past two weeks, on prime-time TV, Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins has thrown for a staggering 824 yards and six touchdowns. The only bigger numbers are the ones Cousins is staring straight at making salarywise. If Washington and Cousins cannot reach a long-term deal this offseason -- and there's plenty of incentive for the Redskins' quarterback not to do one -- his franchise tag will be worth $23,943,600. If Cousins doesn't reach a long-term agreement with Washington and plays on that tag, the 2018 franchise tag would be for a staggering $34,478,784. Thus if Washington and Cousins cannot reach an agreement on a long-term deal the next two years, and the Redskins use their franchise tag on him both...

Washington Redskins willing to use franchise tag on Kirk Cousins again
ABC News - about 1 year
If the Washington Redskins cannot reach a long-term deal with Kirk Cousins before free agency opens in March, they will place the franchise tag on the quarterback, a source familiar with the situation told ESPN. Cousins is being paid a guaranteed $19.95 million in 2016 after he became the second quarterback to play under the franchise tag, joining Drew Brees in 2005 with the San Diego Chargers. In his fifth season in Washington, Cousins has the Redskins chasing a playoff berth at 6-4-1. He is fifth in the NFL in Total QBR this season and has thrown for 3,540 yards with 20 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He threw for 826 yards and six touchdowns in nationally televised games against the Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys?over the past two weeks. The franchise quarterback tag for the 2017 season will be $23,943,600, but the source said the team knows it cannot afford to let Cousins walk and he is expected back in...
