Debbie Reynolds And Carrie Fisher Will Be Buried Together In Joint Funeral Service
Huffington Post - about 1 year
Mother-daughter duo Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher will be buried in a joint funeral service together at the Forest Lawn cemetery in Hollywood Hills, The Huffington Post has confirmed. No date has been set for the private service, but a large public memorial is also being considered. The pair will rest nearby a number of other actors and celebrities, including Bette Davis and Liberace.  After experiencing a heart attack onboard a plane, Fisher died Tuesday at age 60. Just one day later, after helping arrange plans for her daughter’s funeral with son Todd Fisher, Reynolds was rushed to the hospital and died of a stroke at age 84.  “She wanted to be with Carrie,” Todd told Variety.  A star of old Hollywood, Reynolds’ most notable film appearance is in 1952’s “Singin’ in the Rain,” although she remained in the tabloids for years thanks to continued screen appearances and famous friendships. The 2016 Lilly Awards Honor Achievements of Women in the Theater
Huffington Post - almost 2 years
In the 1960s a cigarette manufacturer tried to woo women customers with the somewhat condescending slogan: "You've come a long way, baby." Decades later, in many industries--including the American theater--women still have a very long way to go. Currently only 22% of the plays and musicals produced in America are written by women. That's why playwrights Julia Jordan, Marsha Norman, and Theresa Rebeck founded the Lilly Awards in 2010. The organization honors the contributions made to the American theater by women and also works to publicize and correct the issues that confront women artists, from the lack of childcare to the need for mentors and champions. The 7th annual Lilly Awards celebration took place on May 23, 2016 at the Signature Theatre Center in New York. Ten women were honored, taking their places on stage among previous winners. The presenters were as illustrious as the honorees, including writer, activist, and feminist icon Gloria Steinem, along with Academy Award winne...

ABC Orders The Muppets and Ken Jeong Comedies, Oil Boom, '80s L.A. Crime, FBI Dramas, and More
Yahoo News - almost 3 years
If you like days when networks pick up new shows, then today was your favorite day ever. Networks got a headstart on the Upfronts by ordering several new shows, and ABC just made the biggest order of them all! The Alphabet added three new comedies and six new dramas to its 2015-2016 season, including a reboot of The Muppets and another Shonda Rhimes drama. Stay busy, girl! Let's start with the comedies before things get too serious. The Muppets follows the personal lives of Jim Henson's lovable puppets in and out of the show that made them famous in a documentary-style presentation. We'll be witness to their love lives, professional aspirations, and everything in between. It's billed as a more adult take on The Muppets, but also kid friendly. Ummm, okay! Dr. Ken stars Community's Ken Jeong as a brilliant doctor with terrible bedside manner. But that's not all! He's also a husband and father of two, and he has a propensity for driving those around him crazy. Suzy Nakamura, Tisha-Campbe...

Derek Hough Defends Julianne Hough In Blackface Controversy: 'It Wasn't Her Brightest Moment'
Huffington Post - over 4 years
Derek Hough has come to sister Julianne Hough's defense amid controversy surrounding her blackface Halloween costume, reasoning that it just "wasn't her brightest moment." The "Dancing With the Stars" pro told E! News that Julianne is "mortified" over the backlash she has received for donning blackface when she dressed up as Suzanne "Crazy Eyes" Warren from "Orange Is the New Black" for a party last week. "She's so apologetic. She's so so sorry and I just hope that we can all forgive her and move on," he said. "She's my little baby sister and she's the sweetest thing ever. She is just beyond beside herself... Obviously, it wasn't her brightest moment in her life, but hopefully we can move on." Apparently Derek wasn't around to advise Julianne against wearing the offensive get-up to mimic the incarcerated character, played by African-American actress Uzo Aduba. For her part, the 25-year-old "Paradise" star did apologize and said it wasn't her intention to be "disrespectful or...

Who Wants A 'Good Wife' Spinoff?
Huffington Post - over 4 years
Carrie Preston will likely be back for "The Good Wife" Season 5 ... but what about a spinoff? After every appearance she makes on "The Good Wife," fans start the Elsbeth spinoff chatter. Preston's character Elsbeth Tascioni, a flighty lawyer who operates in her own little world, has become a fan-favorite guest star on the CBS drama. "There have been quite a lot of suggestions for an Elsbeth spinoff," Preston told EW. "Some of them involve [Kyle MacLachlan's character]; some of them involve Michael J. Fox’s character; some of them involve Martha Plimpton’s character. I take that as a big compliment. I am very flattered by that. My Twitter feed often lights up with Elsbeth spinoff suggestions, and I would certainly not be opposed to something like that. I just love playing the character, and it is really exciting that she has struck some kind of nerve in people that makes them want to see more of her." In February 2013, Preston told The Huffington Post nobody was offic...

Note: Do not read on if you have not yet seen the Season 4 finale of CBS' "The Good Wife," titled "What's In The Box?" "The Good Wife" finale moved at breakneck speed and it was filled to the brim with guest stars, including Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Plus, viewers can finally put the gubernatorial election behind them and Alicia made a big decision. Can I have Season 5 now? Please? Let's start at the beginning: Roseanne Conner's mother from "Roseanne" (Estelle Parsons) was tending a polling place under her new identity Nana Jo. Don't worry, her fabulous beret was still very much present. While Zach was voting, he noticed a shifty character bring in an unsealed ballot box. And so the case of the week was born: Alicia, Diane and Will raced around the clock to get to the bottom of this unsealed box and Mike Kresteva (not seen in this episode) hired Patti Nyholm (Martha Plimpton) to defend his side. Once the contents of the ballot box were exposed and turned out to be in Pet...
