Manx cyclist claims 80th professional victory in Fano BATTERED and bruised, Mark Cavendish sprinted to a second stage victory in this year’s Giro d’Italia on Thursday afternoon, three days after a horrendous crash had left him in a sorry state. Watched by his partner, Peta Todd, who was holding their month-old daughter Delilah, the star Manxman executed another clinical sprint finish to win the 209km stage between Modena and Fano. Fellow Manxman Peter Kennaugh was again part of Sky Procycling’s lead-out train, but when it came down to the final few hundred metres there were only two men in it, Cav and his ex-HTC Highroad team-mate Matt Goss. Now with the Australian Orica-GreenEDGE team, Goss made the early running in a tight finish, but, showing no signs of sluggishness after his hefty fall three days earlier, Cavendish grabbed the reins from 150 metres or more out to take the win by just under one bike’s length.
