10 'Austin Powers' Moments That Are Totally Shagadelic 20 Years Later
Huffington Post - 10 months
Allow himself to reintroduce himself. It’s been 20 years since the world fell in love Austin “Danger” Powers despite his bad teeth, ability to turn just about anything into sexual innuendo and highly questionable espionage abilities. Or perhaps these were things that endeared us to the International Man of Mystery, brought to life by Mike Myers, who also took on the role of his pinky-tipping nemesis, Dr. Evil. “Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery” hit theaters in 1997 and Myers went on to appear in “The Spy Who Shagged Me” (1999) and somehow convinced pre-deity Beyoncé to star alongside him in ”Goldmember” (2002). He’s even gone on record saying he’d “love to do another,” teasing the possibility of a fourth entry, if the right story comes along. The quality of the films were put into greater question as the franchise went on, but the original flick still retains a certain creative punch that enshrined Myers and Powers in a special place in pop culture h...

Homer Simpson Kills The 'South Park' Kids In New Couch Gag
Huffington Post - about 1 year
In a new couch gag for the famous “Simpsons” intro sequence, Homer Simpson stiff-arms through the “South Park” kids ― killing them all on impact as they’re beheaded and dismembered by his yellow hand. Seth Green, of “Robot Chicken” and “Family Guy” animation fame, created the segment for last week’s episode, “Fatzcarraldo,” which was uploaded online a few days later. The premise for the intro is that the Simpsons’ sailboat painting goes missing from its usual spot right above the family couch. After Homer asks where it went, Bart suggests, “Maybe another animated show stole it?” Homer decides to go on a quest to retrieve the painting, which Lisa dismisses as a “derivative” work of art. After he leaves, Bart admits to the rest of the family, “Or maybe I sold it on Craigslist.” Homer’s first stop in his search for the painting is a place that looks a lot like “South Park,” inhabited by four children modeled after Kyle, Cartman, Kenny and Stan. Homer says ...

Werewolf Bites: 32 Things You Didn't Know About the Hairy Beasts
Huffington Post - about 4 years
Who's afraid of the big, bad werewolf? Hopefully not viewers, because full moon fever has overtaken winter television with a litter of shows featuring supernatural pups. Syfy leads the pack on Mondays (AKA "moon day") with Being Human, Bitten and Lost Girl, but there is also MTV's Teen Wolf (shown above) -- as well as The CW's werewolf-ish Beauty And The Beast. Vampires take center stage with CW's The Originals and The Vampire Diaries, but the wolves are a regular burden to the bloodsuckers Tuesdays and Thursdays, respectively. Although he's technically a "Blutbad," the hairy Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell) on NBC's Grimm is definitely a wolfman. And these shows don't even include later offerings in 2014 -- such as True Blood and Hemlock Grove, with werewolves as lead characters -- or all the other shows with cameos by the creatures. So with all the lupine lunacy on the TV landscape, now seemed like a good time for a giant serving of paranormal pop-culture werewolf bites. 1. L...

The 10 Worst TV Role Models of 2013
Huffington Post - over 4 years
By Sierra Filucci, Common Sense Media TV editor From Abby Lee Miller to Walter White, TV is full of wild and crazy characters who make us laugh, cry, or grit our teeth in frustration. Each year, Common Sense Media calls out the TV characters and personalities who have the most and least to offer kids and families. You'll see some familiar faces on the "worst" list (the Kardashians, for the third year in a row) and a few newbies, who may or may not stand the test of TV time. Even with all the new devices competing for kids' attention, regular old TV still dominates kids' screen time. That means all the characters they watch or otherwise absorb through popular culture make a big impact on kids' still-forming identities. But even the worst role models can help you start important discussions with kids about what is and isn't appropriate behavior. These talks can also help your kid become more media-savvy. Discuss the reasons why these folks get so much attention. Who makes the decisi...

Trick 'R Treat Actor Dylan Baker Has Sweet Halloween Season
Huffington Post - over 4 years
Dylan Baker's Halloween is full of treats. The veteran actor, who has a knack for bringing an indie cred to a mainstream project and vice versa, has had one piece of good news follow another this autumn. His directorial debut, 23 Blast -- about a football player who goes blind but tries to stay in the game -- kicked up some buzz at the Heartland Film Festival in Indianapolis. Then the trailer for Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues showed off his character of Freddy Schap. But one of the most unexpected pieces of sweet news for Baker this season was the return of his film Trick 'R Treat. The 2007 horror anthology film, written and directed by Michael Dougherty, and starring Baker as an ornery (and homicidal) school principal, was left on a studio shelf only to be released on home video in 2009 where it developed a cult following. But the flick received a long overdue theatrical screening Monday night at Los Angeles' Egyptian Theater, which closed out the Beyond Fest film festival....

Huffington Post - over 4 years
LOS ANGELES — LOS ANGELES (AP) — Fox says it's ordering a full season of the new comedy "Dads," which came under early fire by critics. The series is about two best friends and business partners whose fathers move in. It stars Seth Green, Giovanni Ribisi, Peter Riegert and Martin Mull. An additional nine episodes were ordered for a total of 22 half-hours, Fox announced Friday. The pilot episode of "Dads" was slammed by critics as crass, sexist and exploiting racial stereotypes, and producers promised a change in tone. Seth MacFarlane, the creator of Fox's animated comedy "Family Guy," is among the producers of "Dads." Fox Entertainment Chairman Kevin Reilly cited the show's appeal to young adult viewers in announcing the additional episodes, calling it "an asset we can grow." The show airs on Tuesday.
