How Our Favorite Shows Share A Glimpse of What It's Like For #BlackWomenAtWork
Huffington Post - 11 months
A recent report from the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, revealed only 93 black female executives are in advertising, PR and related agencies with more than 100 people, out of 8,734 total executives. This is just one of the many industries which lack black women’s presence in top positions. The lack of black women’s presence in top position in Corporate America can be a reflection of some companies’ culture and the elements black women face in the workplace. Earlier this month an unfortunate series of events had black women sharing what it's like to be them at work. However, Twitter isn't the only place that is displaying some of the truths behind what it's like to be a black woman in Corporate America. Some of our favorite TV shows this season have explored the good, the bad and the ugly of the black woman's experience. Jason Mannino: Andrew Rannells, Kimberly Locke, Alex Newell, Tyne Daly Raise $385k for APLA in the 29th Star Studded S.T.A.G.E Gala
Huffington Post - almost 5 years
A constellation of Broadway, television and film stars lit up the stage of the historic Saban Theater in Beverly Hills this past Saturday for the 29th annual S.T.A.G.E. (Southland Theater Artists Goodwill Event) Gala. The event, Broadway My Way raised $385,000.00 for AIDS Project Los Angeles (APLA). Billed as the world's longest running AIDS benefit, S.T.A.G.E. is an all-star musical revue, organized in 1984, that has raised more than five million dollars for AIDS service organizations across Southern California. "I started this fundraiser when it was still a gay disease, and we didn't have a name for it," director David Galligan said. Legendary Carole Cook supported this sentiment, saying of her 27 year contribution to S.T.A.G.E., "I have been involved since its inception. When we lost one of our first chorus boys while I was starring in 42nd Street we didn't expect hundreds, and thousands of deaths to follow, and the work still needs to be done, so I am still here." ...

'Stars in Shorts' review: mixed results
San Francisco Chronicle - over 5 years
'Stars in Shorts' review: mixed results The best of the longer segments is "Steve," a piece of Pinter light starring Firth as a passive-aggressive neighbor from hell who repeatedly turns up at the door of a bickering couple (Knightley and Tom Mison) to register a series of baseless complaints, which he tops off with an infuriated demand for tea and biscuits. Jay Kamen's "Not Your Time," starring Alexander, may try your patience with its heavy-handed comic take on the shopworn subject of the tribulations of succeeding in Tinseltown, but it boasts cameos by a large number of real-life Hollywood agents and producers, and Valarie Pettiford as a singing and dancing Angel of Death. Rounding out the program, and in general less successful, are: "The Procession," with Tomlin, a comic tale of a mother and son who get lost on the way to the cemetery; and a pair of Neil LaBute offerings - "Sexting" with Stiles and "After School Special" with Wes Bentley and Sarah Paulson ...
