Russell Westbrook on Zaza Pachulia's foul: 'I don't play that game'
ABC News - over 1 year
OAKLAND, Calif. -- Russell Westbrook said he is going to "get his ass back," with regard to Zaza Pachulia's hard foul in the second quarter of the Golden State Warriors' 121-100 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday. "He hit me kind of hard," Westbrook said. "But it's all right. I'm gonna get his ass back. Straight up." With time ticking down before the half, Pachulia knocked Westbrook down, appearing to push the ball into Westbrook's face. Westbrook remained on the floor holding his face. Pachulia was handed a flagrant foul 1 for the play, following a review by the officials. But what upset Westbrook was Pachulia's reaction to the foul. The Warriors big man took a couple of steps to stand over Westbrook when the Thunder point guard was on the floor. "No, I didn't see that until just now, but I don't play that game," a clearly agitated Westbrook said. "I'm gonna get his ass back. Whenever that is, I don't know what....

Rim protector JaVale McGee to be part of Warriors training camp
ABC News - over 1 year
The Golden State Warriors are inviting veteran center JaVale McGee to training camp in a bid to address their need for a rim protector, according to league sources. Sources said the Warriors will sign McGee to a make-good contract for the chance to make their 15-man roster in October. In creating the needed salary-cap space to sign Kevin Durant away from the Oklahoma City Thunder, Golden State was forced to sacrifice three of its four centers: Andrew Bogut (traded to Dallas), Festus Ezeli (signed with Portland) and Marreese Speights (signed with the Los Angeles Clippers). The Warriors have since signed Zaza Pachulia and David West and re-signed Anderson Varejao, but they have decided to gamble on the athletic McGee in hopes they can unearth a rotation player and add a shot-blocker to the roster. McGee, 28, spent last season with the Mavericks after prior stints.....

Indianapolis, IN ( - The Indiana Pacers weren't about to let the depleted and struggling Milwaukee Bucks get back into the game early in the second half. Roy Hibbert made sure of it. Hibbert had 24 points, eight blocks and 10 rebounds as the Pacers remained unbeaten following a 104-77 triumph over the Bucks. Indiana is the first NBA team to start 9-0 since the 2002-03 Dallas Mavericks, who began the campaign with 14 straight victories. Hibbert was 8-of-10 from the field and sunk all eight of his foul shots, while Paul George added 22 points in the victory. O.J. Mayo netted 20 points to lead Milwaukee, which has dropped four straight and five of its last six. The Bucks were without starting point guard Brandon Knight, starting power forward Ersan Ilyasova and bench player Caron Butler. NBA Offseason Losers: Knicks, Nets And 76ers Fans May Want To Close Eyes
Huffington Post Sports - over 4 years
The NBA offseason is the place for teams to improve, regress or rebuild. And while it is difficult to judge teams without seeing how new lineups look in actual games, we have a pretty good idea of what to expect come tipoff in late October. Having already graded five offseason winners, let's take a look at five teams who went the opposite direction. Philadelphia 76ers Philly made a supremely questionable decision by trading away Jrue Holiday, its best player, for Nerlens Noel, a teenage big man who weighs a shade over 200 pounds and is coming off major knee surgery. Noel may very well become a dominant defensive center in this league, but new GM Sam Hinkie is taking a massive risk. The team is also at a disadvantage because Michael Carter-Williams should not be a starting NBA point guard. He has the size and the tools, but if you watch him long enough, you realize something is definitely missing. Just an odd, odd summer for the 76ers, a team that is currently looking at...

The 4 Most Terrible Contracts Of NBA Free Agency So Far
Business Insider - almost 5 years
NBA teams have actually been pretty smart this offseason. But there were still some awful contracts handed out. Here are the four worst: 1. The Charlotte Bobcats sign Al Jefferson for three years, $41 million. A contract so bad it requires caps lock: THE JAZZ GOT 9 POINTS PER 100 POSSESSIONS WORSE WHEN AL JEFFERSON WAS ON THE COURT LAST YEAR WHY IS HE STILL MAKING ~$14 MILLION PER YEAR? 2. The Denver Nuggets sign JJ Hickson for three years, $15 million. Denver's offseason has been a flaming disaster. Here are the key pieces who they lost: Coach George Karl (fired after he won coach of the year) General manager Masai Ujiri (poached by the Raptors) Andre Iguodala Kosta Koufos Corey Brewer They've replaced those players with Darrell Arthur and Hickson — two forwards who are worse than what the Nuggets already have in Kenneth Faried and JaVale McGee. This is Hickson's fourth team since 2010-11. He specializes in getting 10 points and 10 rebounds in 30 minutes...

NBA Free Agency 2013: Winners And Losers
Huffington Post - almost 5 years
Free agency in the NBA, much like the draft, is hit-or-miss. When it works, it can make a good team great: Ray Allen and Chris Andersen, who were acquired in free agency by Miami, made all the difference during the Finals. But when it doesn't, a decent team can fall apart. And even if some -- but not all -- of the risk has been minizmied because of the amnesty clause, the wrong guy can put a franchise in a financial hole for years (Rashard Lewis and Amar'e Stoudemire come to mind). With the 2013 free agency period shaping up, let's examine the big winners and losers: Winners Los Angeles Clippers Chris Paul is the organization's first superstar and he actually stayed put! For five years! CP3 provides stability and maintains the Clippers as elite team in the West moving forward. Recently installed head coach Doc Rivers' defensive philosophy should trump anything that Vinny Del Negro ever brought to the table. It was also extremely important, if less flashy, that the...
