The festivities first began as the celebration of the arrival of Christianity to Ireland, and March 17 is the anniversary of the death of the most commonly recognized patron saint of Ireland, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spokeo.com\/Saint+Patrick+1\">Saint Patrick<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>How did wearing green and shamrocks come about? It is said that Saint Patrick used the three-leaved shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity to the Irish. All around the world, the day includes parties and parades and usually \u00a0the consumption of alcoholic beverages.
