This semester, we received more than 300 essays. After vigilant review of many exceptional submissions, one in particular stood out. Shashank Keshav Rao of Canton, MI wrote a brilliant essay examining how social media tools serve the greater public good.<\/p>\n<p>The winning scholar\u2019s essay provided an insightful look at the incredible impact that social media platforms have on people by raising awareness, prompting important discussions and forming communities. (Read the winning essay <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1ABQSK3mbJLtXJ0L6EiSDzEUwraqWXFuJ8huDRAa1-4s\/edit\">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Currently a sophomore at the University of Michigan, Shashank is double-majoring in English and Creative Writing, and minoring in Japanese.
