Do your research on any potential new neighborhoods, even before taking a tour of the homes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Neighborhood Safety Comes First<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There are a variety of sites you can use to get an feel for a new community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sites like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.neighborhoodscout.com\/\">NeighborhoodScout<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.areavibes.com\/\">AreaVibes<\/a> will give you a leg up in terms of assessing a neighborhood safety, livability, and amenities. They will also allow you to search any area to see how it stacks up against national averages in terms of crime, school quality, cost of living and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you&#8217;ve determined it meets your standards, it&#8217;s also important to take the time to see the neighborhood for yourself <em>in person<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Get a true feel for your new neighborhood by walking around and exploring what\u2019s nearby and try and get a vibe for what it would be like on a typical day &#8211; or night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Does it <em>feel<\/em> safe? Does it seem family-friendly? Would you let your loved ones walk the dog around the block after dark? How about a late-night jog?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Getting to Know the Neighbors<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Where you live is just as important as <em>who<\/em> you live near. Don\u2019t forget to\nresearch your neighbors! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are many sites you can use to research\nneighbors. People search engines like Spokeo allow you to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spokeo.com\/reverse-address-search\">reverse search an address<\/a> for\ninformation on current residents, including names, ages, home value, sex\noffender status and more.&nbsp; You can even\nsearch for criminal records for an additional fee. It may feel a little weird\nat first, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spokeo.com\/background-check\">running\na background check<\/a> on some of the names you find can go a\nlong way towards giving you peace of mind, especially if you have children. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also search government sites such as\nthe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nsopw.gov\/\">National Sex Offender Registry<\/a> to\nsee nearby predators and search people by name or location. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(If everything checks out, you can also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spokeo.com\/reverse-address-search\">search your own (possible new) address<\/a>\nfor information on the home you might not have seen elsewhere, including past\nresidents.) <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most of the time, your new neighbors will turn out to be upstanding citizens just like you.
