1. Make Dinner Together<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Don’t waste time (and money) in an overcrowded, overpriced restaurant. When it comes to a Valentine’s Day meal, you want to go for a unique, memorable experience.\u00a0Imagine how many other people simply go to Yelp and type in “Romantic” and “takes reservations.” You\u2019re better than that! So think outside the box.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Don\u2019t worry if you aren\u2019t a Michelin-starred wizard in the kitchen. Spend a little time researching recipes your partner may like (YouTube is a great place to start) and do your best. They will appreciate the sentiment and the thoughtfulness of the gesture.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Or better yet, make dinner together! Sharing kitchen duties can be a fun way to work together, and makes actually sitting down to eat that much more rewarding. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Don\u2019t Buy a Card…Create One<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Don\u2019t get me wrong – cards are nice and all, but the store-bought variety represents the bare minimum of effort. You’re basically outsourcing the job of expressing your feelings to Hallmark . <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019re going to give a card, make it yourself. Again, don\u2019t worry if you aren\u2019t Henri Matisse<\/a>. It\u2019s the thought – and the message inside the card – that counts. Take some time to craft a personalized message that gets to the heart (cringeworthy pun intended!) of what you think about them. Don\u2019t rush it – really think about what you want to say, and try as hard as you can to avoid the standard love clich\u00e9s. In other words, don\u2019t simply Google \u201clove poems\u201d and crib some Tumblr poet\u2019s work. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Make a\nMix-Tape…90\u2019s Style<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

*Shaking a cane* Back in\nmy day – the decade commonly referred to as 1990s, we didn\u2019t have iTunes or\nSpotify. We bought CDs and cassettes, and carried around awkwardly bulky\nDiscmans (Discmen?)  and Cassette Players\nin our enormous JNCO\njeans<\/a>. It was quite a\ntime to be alive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We also used to make\nmixtapes for our special someone. These were curated mixes on tape of our\nfavorite love songs, complete with lovingly-sharpied tracklists. Nowadays, most\npeople just create streaming playlists, and if they do want to share the love,\nthey\u2019ll just text you a link.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thankfully, some companies<\/a> are bringing back 90\u2019s mixtapes <\/a>with a 21st century twist: USB flash drives in the guise\nof a blank cassette, loaded up with your favorite songs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Simply download a\nplaylist and add it to the flashdrive inside. Wrap it nicely, include a\ntracklist, and voil\u00e0 – you\u2019re romancing like it\u2019s 1999. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Buy a \u201cThings I Love\nAbout You\u201d Notebook<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019re having trouble\nputting your thoughts into iambic\npentamete<\/a>r or sonnet form<\/a>, no problem: go the Buzzfeed route and make a list.<\/a> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Urban Outfitters sells cheap notebooks that allow you to fill in the blanks with all the things you love about your flame. It\u2019s like Madlibs, but for lovebirds.\u00a0 Maybe not the centerpiece of your gifts, but it\u2019s a nice thing to throw in that they can (hopefully) treasure for many years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

5. Book a Couples\nMassage<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

While it may be tempting to give your partner a massage, you should probably leave it to the professionals. You don\u2019t want to hurt anyone, after all. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Booking\na couples massage<\/a> at\na spa is a great way to share a relaxing experience without breaking the bank.\nWhile you\u2019re there, you can enjoy a steam, a facial, a rock…bath? I don\u2019t\nknow, I\u2019ve never been to a spa. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Either way, it\u2019s a fun\nway to spend an hour or two and set a comfortable, chill mood before dinner. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

6. Buy a Bouquet\nof…Reese\u2019s<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Okay, this may be the\nfact that I haven\u2019t eaten yet today talking, but Reese\u2019s is now making a Bouquet\n(available at Walmart<\/a>, of course) for that special sugar fiend in your life.\nIgnore all the 1-star reviews, and simply look at how beautiful it is<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If Reese\u2019s isn\u2019t their\nthing and you want to go a bit more classy (or healthy), you can always try Edible Arrangements<\/a> or chocolate-covered strawberries. Make sure you have a\nclear idea of what your partner likes, however. You don\u2019t want to send them to\nthe hospital because you weren\u2019t paying attention when they talked about their\ndeadly peanut allergy…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

7. A Night at the\nMuseum<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Museums aren\u2019t for bored\nmiddle schoolers on a field trip any more!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 Get dressed up and take your partner for an\nevening at the local art museum. Many museums (like the Guggenheim<\/a> in NYC) offer evening tours, complete with cocktails,\nwine and cheese. It\u2019s a lovely (and educational) way to spend a few hours\nstrolling about, looking at beautiful paintings and discussing what you see. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
