There are several ways to track down an unknown caller\u2019s phone number and find out who\u2019s behind it.  Some are free and some aren\u2019t, but most are relatively quick.  Let\u2019s take a look at the most common options. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Start With a Quick Online Search<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The obvious starting point is to type your mystery number into Google, or any alternative search engine you prefer.  Search engines won\u2019t usually connect an individual person\u2019s name and number, for privacy reasons, but \u2014 because businesses want<\/em> you to call \u2014 those will usually show up.  Certain other high-profile individuals may show up as well, including activists, professionals (doctors, lawyers, etc.), and political figures. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

An online search also helps you rule out a number of calls, especially if you add a word like \u201cscam\u201d to your search.  If your search results usually connect that number to a complaint or a scam report, you can be pretty certain that it\u2019s not anybody you want to talk to (no matter how persuasive the message they\u2019ve left on your voicemail). <\/p>\n\n\n\n
