Someone from this number called and said they were from the Social Security Office and wanted to ask me questions since I had recently applied for S.S. over the internet. When they asked for my date of birth I asked what they had for my DOB since I did not give out personal information over the phone. She (Latoya Hern) asked me to call her back at 1-800-254-9489, ext. 4836. I went on-line and could not verify this as being the S.S. Number for the office in Birmingham, AL. When I called the number back, someone gave a spill about getting a free medical alert system and when I said I was not interested, the next offer was for a $100 voucher for $1.99 and asked me to have my credit card ready. I hung up the phone, but at no time did it ask me for the extension number for Latoya Hern or give the name of the company.
