I received a phone call telling me it was American Express and that they needed to verify the information that I gave american express asking for another card. They hung up on me. Now I'm worried, can they use this information against me?

I recieved a letter from them saying I applied for an American Express, which I did not and unfortunely I gave them information thinking they were the real thing. To let them know it was not me.
