Johnny Madrid

Board Director, A Home Within, California Court Appointed Special Advocates, and National Foster Youth Action Network


Johnny Madrid has been involved in foster care advocacy for 16 years. He began as a youth member of California Youth Connection (CYC) where he was involved across a spectrum of roles including the Advisory Board, Legislative Committee, and the Youth Empowerment Training Project. While in CYC he facilitated dozens of focus groups with foster youth, gave speeches across the country, lobbied legislators, and trained over 150 social workers. While a student at Stanford University, he wrote his honors thesis on higher education among foster youth. He is a recipient of the Truman Scholarship and was featured as one of Newsweek’s “15 Students You Don’t Know But Will.”

Working as a consultant out of New York city, Johnny Madrid is a research analyst with expertise in two areas: financial industry investments and market-linked structured products. Previously, Mr. Madrid performed private equity business development for Varadero Capital, a niche alternative asset manager. Prior to this, he completed an assignment for UBS as a Director in the Structured Solutions group. There, he helped facilitate 20-40 structured offerings per month 10-12 bank platforms. Previously, he generated investment analytics for Lombardia Capital Partners, a long-only asset management firm. There, he helped lead the Financials Advisory group, where he managed $657 million in advisory assets for institutional clients. He also assisted in covering the banking sector for the firm’s Large and Small Cap Value funds. Previously, he worked on the options trading team as Vice President at Sanford Bernstein. Mr. Madrid began his career covering all sectors within the structured equity group at Goldman Sachs.

In his personal life, he is an executive board member for three nonprofit organizations serving foster youth: California Court Appointed Special Advocates, Foster Youth in Action, and A Home Within.
