In the wake of all the commotion that Facebook was perpetrating a scam against its members regarding privacy, as the official May 31 “Opt-Out Day” approached, some Facebook users vowed to delete their profiles from the site in protest.
In a special website dedicated to the “opt-out” campaign however, as it turned out, only about 36,000 people actually declared their intent to leave Facebook because of the so-called scam (never indicating when they might actually do so.)
Further, despite all the flap about the scam, according to one source Facebook actually gained some 9 million new unique visitors last month. Maybe the interest in opting out was just a scam… (?)’
If Facebook were a country, it would have the third largest population in the world. With such a sizable user community, Facebook has taken steps to ensure that privacy is maintained, and has gone out of its way to debunk any myths that it is perpetrating any so-called privacy scam. It has further made it clear that it does not sell user information.
