Cesar Chavez

On March 31, the states of California, Texas and Colorado officially observe Cesar Chavez Day.

Cesar Chavez was born on March 31, 1927 and was a civil rights activist who fought for the rights of migrant workers in California. Along with fellow activist, Dolores Huerta, Chavez  founded the National Farm Workers Association which served to represent and organize migrant farm laborers. The leaders staged various boycotts against growers in order to raise wages and improve working conditions for migrant families working in the fields throughout the sixties and seventies.
