What is programmer’s day?
Hello! Programmer’s day is celebrated on the 256th day of the year, because 256 is the number of distinct values that can be represented with an eight-bit byte, a value well-known to all programmers. (Source wikipedia).
What motivated you to become a programmer?
I find programming to be challenging and fun. I am really proud to be a programmer because I am able to provide solutions that users most likely never knew existed. Technology has always been fascinating to me and that was my biggest motivation to become a developer.
Tell us about a day in the life of a programmer at Spokeo.
Working as a developer at Spokeo has been an amazing experience. Challenges are thrown at you everyday and as I solve them one after the other. It gives me great satisfaction, confidence, and momentum to keep going forward.
What is your proudest programming moment?
My proudest moment as a developer was when I made my first contribution to the open source community working at Spokeo. I would like to thank David Butler (Project Manager and lead Software Architect for Spokeo) for encouraging me and guiding me through this process. This was my first opportunity where I could give back to the society from where I get to learn so much.
When did you learn to code?
I have been programming for almost 5 years now in various technologies and platforms and I am always focused on producing quality code. I was the only female programmer at my first job back in India and I was the first female programmer at Spokeo. I have been to a few ruby meetups in LA and have seen very few women engineers there as well.
How do you plan to celebrate programmer’s day?
I think we should use this day as an opportunity to create more awareness among young women and reach out to kids, (especially girls) at an early stage to generate their interest in technology and programming.
